Promotion of FPO in Nanded |
The report was a detailed project review on promotion of Farmer Producer Organization under Pulses Programme in Nanded District, Maharashtra. The report contained details on promotion of building Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), to mitigate some of the risks and constraints like weather uncertainties, uneven access to technology and more.
FPOs offer a pathway to farmers, especially smallholders, to successfully deal with a range of challenges by overcoming the constraints imposed by the small size of their individual farms. FPO members are able to leverage collective strength to access credit and technology, reduce transaction costs, tap high value markets and enter into partnerships with private entities on more equitable terms. The aggregation opportunities offered by FPOs attract both wholesale agents and processors to enter into direct buying arrangements with producers. It also creates competition and fair price discovery. The project resulted in a report for the farmer producer organization promoted under 60,000 village pulse programme in the state of Maharashtra.
