East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh
Introduction
ALC India, with the support of Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP), Government of Andhra Pradesh is facilitating the promotion of Godavari Women Weavers’ Services Producer Company (GWWSPC) in the East Godavari region. GWWSPC endeavours to provide sustainable livelihoods and better income to the weavers by ensuring that their products are a preferred choice of consumers.
Description
The program will reach 3000 weavers in the next five years within a 50 km radius of Mandapeta Mandal. The objective of GWWSPC is to double, in a 5-year period, the income of each weaver associated with the Producer Company and to provide marketing support by establishing their own brand and selling to consumers through a national chain of retail outlets and other institutional linkages.
Proposed Outcomes
The outcomes created by GWWSPC will include:
• Development of techno-managerial skills of the weavers
• Local design development
• Integration of youth from weaver community into marketing and the Producer Company
• 100% increase in income
• Local employment generation
