Introduction
ALC India in partnership with Tata Power, initiated an integrated dairy project in Maval, Pune. When fully operationalized, Maval Dairy will bring significant gains in the livelihoods of 3,000 women dairy farmers across 24 villages.
Description
In 2015, ALC India partnered with Tata Power to incubate a dairy producer company - Maval Dairy Producers Services Producer Company (MDPSPC), in Maval, Maharshtra.
Besides establishing a dairy plant with 10,000 liters per day capacity, the project has developed an integrated value chain - supporting the women dairy farmers from managing their mini-dairies, each with 8 to 10 cattle to marketing milk and its byproducts. The project has started a range of services for the dairy farmers - feed, fodder, veterinary, loan, and insurance services.
Proposed Outcomes
Maval Dairy and Maval Dairy PSPC have established a range of services and facilities:
Two dairy farms with 200 animals
One traditional Indian dairy products manufacturing unit
Two retail outlets for traditional Indian dairy products
Two livestock service centers
One feed-mixing plant
The project also plans for the cultivation of 10 acres of land for fodder and 1,000 cattle infusions.
